8-Day Northern to Southern Plains: The Complete Rift Valley Circuit

8 Days 7 Nights

From the misty alpine forests of the Aberdares to the endless golden plains of the Maasai Mara. This 8-day odyssey is a study in Kenya’s dramatic contrasts. You begin in the cool, coffee-rich highlands of Aberdare National Park, staying in a unique “Tree Lodge” overlooking a floodlit waterhole. You then descend into the Great Rift Valley to track rhinos in Lake Nakuru and drift past hippos on Lake Naivasha. The climax of your journey is three exhilarating nights in the Maasai Mara, giving you ample time to witness the Big Five and the Great Migration without the rush.

Why This Safari Stands Out

  • The “Tree Lodge” Experience: In Aberdare, you don’t chase the animals; they come to you. You stay in a lodge on stilts (like The Ark or Treetops), watching elephants and leopards visit the salt lick directly from your balcony.

  • Rift Valley Lakes Duo: Unlike most safaris that only visit one lake, we include both Lake Nakuru (for Rhinos/Flamingos) and Lake Naivasha (for Boat Safaris/Hippos), ensuring a complete birding and wildlife experience.

  • 3 Nights in the Mara: Most packages rush the Mara in 2 nights. We give you 3, increasing your chances of seeing a river crossing (in season) or tracking elusive leopards and cheetah hunts.

Your Day-by-Day Adventure Narrative

As we climb into the Aberdare Mountains, the air turns crisp and cool. We check into your “Tree Lodge” in time for lunch. The afternoon is spent on the viewing decks, watching giant forest hogs, elephants, and hyenas emerge from the dense bamboo forest to drink at the waterhole below. Keep an eye out for the rare Bongo antelope!

  • The Migration: (July-Oct) We head to the Mara River to wait for the wildebeest to brave the crocodile-infested waters.
